Botox & Dermal Filler in the UK

Both botox and dermal fillers are cosmetic treatments for the treatment of the wrinkles on the face. Those treatments have been used for more than 20 years and become popular as they are minimally invasive meaning no surgery is needed.

As System Health Consulting, we are offering both treatments in the UK.

Although they might seem to have similarities, there are differences between botox and dermal fillers.

Mainly, botox contains purified bacteria and when injected into muscles it freezes those muscles so that the appearance of wrinkles and lines caused by facial expressions are minimized.

Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in the body. When injected into the skin, dermal fillers give volume and fullness so that the injected area rehydrates and plumps.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin protein that is obtained from bacteria. Botox has been used safely for long years for both medical and cosmetic purposes.

HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?

When injected into the localized areas of the skin, Botox blocks the nerve signals in the muscles where it has been injected. Interruption of the nerve signal makes the muscle temporarily relaxed so that the lines and the wrinkles are reduced, softened, or reduced.

FOR WHICH TREATMENTS CAN BOTOX BE USED FOR?

Botox can be used for both cosmetic and medical purposes.

For cosmetic purposes, Botox is a good solution for the treatment of wrinkles, or the lines caused by the movement of the muscles around the mouth and the upper face. Those include the treatment of; frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet, gummy smile, smoker's lines, dimpled chin.

Botox can also be used for the treatment of teeth grinding (bruxism), hyperhidrosis, migraine.

HYPERHIDROSIS (EXCESSIVE SWEATING)

Small doses of botox are injected into the skin to block the nerve supply to the apocrine sweat glands and prevent the glands from producing sweat. This can be named a life-changing result by some patients as it increases freedom and life quality. This effect lasts up to 6 months and can be repeated again.

TEETH GRINDING (BRUXISM)

Botox is injected into the chewing muscle (masseter muscle). With this injection, chewing muscle is relaxed and its size is reduced. Due to teeth grinding the shape of the face may become square and after botox injection, the jawline shapes so that the appearance of the face may look slimmer.

MIGRAINE

Botox can also be used to reduce the severity and frequency of chronic migraine.

WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?

The effect of botox treatments does not start immediately unlike dermal fillers. The relief of the muscles takes some time. Although the results vary from person to person, the effect usually starts 1 week after the injection. Depending on the injection area the results or the effect of the treatment can be seen after 2-4 weeks.

HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST?

Botox treatments are temporary and the effects usually last between 3-6 months depending on the injection area and the person. Although it is temporary it can be repeated again. In general, regular botox treatments will make the wrinkles less prominent as the muscles will shrink and fewer injections will be needed.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Some minor side effects can be listed as bruising and swelling around the injection area, but this relieves in a few days. Mild headaches can be seen on the evening of the treatment but this will subside shortly after the treatment.

Botox is considered safe and as it is not surgical you can resume your daily life after the treatment. Any of those minor side effects are temporary and will disappear shortly.

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?

Dermal fillers which are also called soft tissue fillers are substances that are injected beneath the skin to add volume and fullness. As we age, the collagen and elastin lessen which in turn results in volume loss.

After the injection of dermal fillers, lines and wrinkles due to aging are eliminated and replenished therefore a young skin appearance is created.

HOW DO DERMAL FILLERS WORK?

Dermal fillers contain a molecule called hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in the body. It accounts for adding plumpness to the skin and hydration of the skin.

During the treatment man-made hyaluronic acid is used and as it is very similar to the naturally found in the body it is recognized as the body's own molecule. After the dermal filler is injected into the targeted area of the skin with a fine needle, the skin rehydrates and plumps therefore creating a natural and subtle look.

FOR WHICH TREATMENTS ARE DERMAL FILLERS USED FOR?

Dermal fillers can restore and volumize skin and facial contours to form a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers smooth lines and wrinkles and define the shape of facial structures such as lips.

Although they are mainly used for the lower face such as treatment of nose to mouth lines, corners of the mouth, lip volumisation, they can also be used for volumisation of cheeks and hands.

WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?

Unlike botox, dermal filler treatments have an instant effect.

HOW LONG DO DERMAL FILLERS LAST?

Like botox treatments, dermal fillers are also temporary treatments. In general, the effect of the treatments lasts between 6-12 months although this period changes according to age, lifestyle, and the skin type of the patient.

Dermal fillers can be repeated every 6-9 months.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF DERMAL FILLERS?

Although side effects are very rare, they can be listed as bruising, swelling, redness, tenderness, itching, transient numbness. These side effects will subside shortly after the treatment. Some measures such as the application of ice for a few hours after treatment will help reduce swelling or mild bruising.

IS IT PAINFUL?

Most patients find the injections only cause mild, temporary discomfort. Usually, the area is anesthetized with a local anesthetic to minimise discomfort.
